here are some of my c64 art. i've been doing pixel art and messing with now-retro computers since my earliest years, but living in a country that adopted extremely protectionist policies during most of the c64’s life, making it an extremely rare computer even to this day, i’ve only really started - slowly - learning about it during the last decade or so, to only then, after years of passive appreciation, in early 2019, decide to really start dabbling into it's aesthetic language myself.

as you can see from the discrepancy between "early 2019" and the actual oldest release on this page, this isn't an exhaustive gallery, most of my 2019 stuff isn't in what i would really call a "releasable condition", so they may take a while until they get here.

the list is currently sorted from newest to oldest based on release date, with the start date as an untying factor. if you want to know what exactly is happening under the CRTα and CRTβ display options, i do have an article about them here - link

downloads are currently unavailable as the neocities doesn't allow the upload of .prg files

// the base image for the one on the pages under construction on this very site; a really simple one, i think it took less than twenty minutes from start to finish without prior planning. i really like how the CRTβ emulation degraded the dithering on this one.

// [orig. by tatlworks] a personal character of mine. even though she’s kind of my “main character”, this is only the second drawing of her since she was designed back in 2018 - and to make things even sillier - this was also my first experience doing a hires image to completion. i really enjoyed working with the dithering in this one, and decided to incorporate the hires color limitation as texture into her clothing instead of trying to make it seamless.

// [under Tiny PETSCII Compo 2020 restrictions] a silly idea that came to mind when I was doing the “Year of the Rat” - i’ve been thinking about expanding it into a full set of court cards without the compo color restrictions for some time now.

// [under Tiny PETSCII Compo 2020 restrictions] before I started putting any effort onto these tiny pieces, i first experimented with how many connected characters i could fit into the limited space; this one is just a polished version of said experiments. a celtic knot of sorts.

// [under Tiny PETSCII Compo 2020 restrictions] my first finished piece under the 8x8 two-color restrictions and also my favorite one. the initial idea was to fully fit the lips under the limited space, but after four failed iterations trying to make their curves look natural, i guess a cropped solution will have to suffice.
